CBAP® / CCBA® Certification Prep. Course (BA210)

Introduction

International Institute of Business Analysis - IIBA ® is the first organization to offer the formal certification for business analysis practitioners. IIBA® is an independent, non-profit professional association serving the growing field of business analysis.

The main objective of this course is to improve the skills and competencies of the participants in the field of Business analysis. Participants will have eye-opening experience in the best practices in Business analysis as documented in the IIBA’s BABOK®. The course aims at optimizing business analysis processes and profession as well as a good preparation for candidates to be certified.

Course Contents

Module 1:

Introduction - International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA) and the IIBA’s BABOK®(edition 2.0); Overview of the BABOK®; BABOK Structure and flow -  Knowledge Areas - tasks/techniques – diagrams.

  1. Business Analysis Planning and Monitoring - approach, stakeholders, activities, communication, management process, performance
  2. Elicitation - preparation, activity, result documentation, confirmation
  3. Requirements Management and Communication - scope, traceability, re-use, package, communication
  4. Enterprise Analysis - business need, gaps, approach, scope, business case
  5. Requirements Analysis - prioritization, organization, modeling, assumptions and constraints, verification, validation
  6. Solution Assessment and Validation - proposed solution assessment, allocation, organizational readiness, transition, validation, performance
Module 2:

7.    BA Underlying Competencies (analytical thinking, behavioral characteristics, interpersonal, business knowledge, communication and interaction, software applications, cultural awareness, etc.)

Expected outcomes

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

Steps to be certified

The Certification of Competency in Business AnalysisTM (CCBA®)
The Certification of Competency in Business AnalysisTM (CCBA®) designation is a professional certification for business analysis practitioners who want to be recognized for their expertise and skills by earning formal recognition. With at least 3750 hours of hands-on BA experience, they have developed essential BA skills.
CCBA® recipients are recognized for the investment they have already made in their business analysis careers, and include professionals working in the role of:

  • Business analysis
  • Systems analysis
  • Requirements analysis or management
  • Process improvement
  • Consulting
1. Certification requirements

To earn the CCBA® designation, a BA will need to be knowledgeable in all six knowledge areas of A Guide to the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge® (BABOK®) Guide knowledge areas, with proficiency in at least two. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum 3750 hours of BA work experience aligned with the BABOK® Guide in the last seven years
  • Minimum 900 hours in two of the six knowledge areas or 500 hours in four of the six knowledge areas
  • Minimum 21 hours of Professional Development in the past four years
  • Minimum high school education or equivalent
  • Two references from a career manager, client or Certified Business Analysis Professional  (CBAP®)  recipient
  • Signed Code of Conduct
2.    Submit application and fees

Step 1: Applying for and Paying for CCBA® Certification

  • Meet the above applicant requirements.
  • Complete and submit the CCBA® Application Form online.
  • Submit the application fee of $125 USD for all applicants (IIBA member and non-member)

Step 2: Paying for the Exam

The exam fee is $325.00 USD (for IIBA members) or $450 USD (for non-members)

Step 3: Registering for the Exam

Once the exam fee has been processed by IIBA, you can register for the Computer-based testing (CBT) of the exam at a dedicated test center.

Please note: SCEES - Sudan is the only certified test center where you can sit for the CCBA exam.

4. Pass the examination

The current CCBA® exam blueprint based on v2.0 of the BABOK® Guide is as follows:

  • Business Analysis Planning and Monitoring -20%
  • Elicitation -13.33%
  • Requirements Management and Communication -16% Enterprise Analysis -15.33%
  • Requirements Analysis - 19.33%
  • Solution Assessment and Validation - 16%

CCBA® Exam Structure

The CCBA® exam is 3.5 hours long and consists of 150 multiple choice questions with four possible answers to select from. Some questions are based on "comprehension" (e.g., definition, recall, etc.) and others are based on "situational analysis" (e.g., given a scenario, which is the best course of action) where the applicant must do a bit of analysis to arrive at the answer. It is neither all of one type or the other but covers a range of Bloom’s Taxonomy.

Certified Business Analysis Professional TM (CBAP®)

The Certified Business Analysis Professional TM (CBAP®) designation is a professional certification for individuals with extensive business analysis experience. With at least 7500 hours of hands-on BA experience, CBAP® recipients are the elite, senior members of the BA community.

You will want to consider the many professional benefits of earning the CBAP® designation if you have an advanced level of knowledge and experience and are working in any of the following roles:

  • Business analysis
  • Systems analysis
  • Requirements analysis or management
  • Process improvement
  • Consulting
1. Certification requirements
